Ade paced back and forth as she sat on the bed and shivered.

“Tell me again what you dreamt”

“Ade I have told you, I have told you like four times. Nkechi was asleep and suddenly she started jerking. Her mom woke up and began to shake her, trying to break her out of it. She stopped suddenly and lay still…Ade please don’t make me continue, you already know how it ends”

Ade sat down on the floor and held his head in his hands.

“That’s exactly what mama Nkechi said.”
Ade whispered.

“How can your dream be so detailed? You even saw mama Nkechi calling people”

“Ade I don’t know, I don’t. I hardly ever have dreams. I can’t remember the last time I dreamt and of all things to dream about, it had to be Nkechi’s death”
She started to cry. Ade got up and joined her on the bed. He pulled her close and started to stroke her hair, kissing her lightly.

“Its alright princess, it wasn’t your fault. Everything will be alright”
He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead.
She knew something was amiss. She remembered the stories her mother told her. The one that struck her the most was the story of her grandfather. Her mother said he had started to dream about horrible things, people dying in fires, assasiations and the worst, his youngest son falling into the well. All of her grandfathers dreams came to pass and when the last one happened, the death of his son, grandfather killed himself. He put his hunting gun in his mouth and shot himself.

She wondered if it was some sort of curse and if it was the same thing happening to her. She crossed herself, never had she been a devout Catholic, but she prayed today that the sign of the cross would protect her. She needed it to.
